Lake Como is the most spectacular lake in Italy, located in the shadow of the snow-covered majestic Rhaetian Alps. The lake appears in a shape of an upside-down Y that measures more than 120km. Its wobbly shoreline is surrounded by villages which include the famous Bellagio. Bellagio is the center of the inverted letter V on the southern shore of the lake.
Lake Como is not far from Milan in the northern part of Italy. It has been very famous for being a resort during the Roman Empire. Since then, visitors admired its crystal clear blue waters and luxurious villas that offer relaxation in the wooded sloped above the lakeside. Today, the towns surrounding the shores are very popular with travelers, walkers, swimmers and cyclists.
How to Get There
Como is on the main railway network of Italy. Trains frequently run from Milan going to Como. It takes around 40 minutes to get there, departing from Stazione Centrale and Stazione Porta Garibaldi of Milan and arriving at the main station of Como, San Giovanni.
Getting Around Como
All main towns in Lake Como are served by steamers, buses and boats. There is a regular boat service that connects visitors to central resorts such as Tremezzo, Lenno, Villa Carlotta, Menaggio, Cadenabbia, Varenna and Bellagio. A car ferry is also available. There are also faster boats that travel the full length of the lake but they are less frequent. Buses approximately run hourly all the way to Colico in the northeast from the west coast of Como.
